Canadian Consulate Inaugurates New Premises

The new Canadian Consulate office with state-of-the-art security equipment, including bulletproof glass, was officially opened Monday evening before a crowd of invitation-only guests and a bevy of government officials.

Security was tight and very obvious as Sinaloa Governor Mario López Valdez, Mazatlán Mayor Alejandro Higuera and Canadian Ambassador Guillermo Rishcynski addressed the attendees before cutting the ceremonial ribbon. In his speech, Ambassador Rishcynski explained that Canada has had a consular agency in Mazatlán for 25 years represented by either honorary consuls or consular agents.

Earlier that afternoon, Mayor Higuera presented the keys to the city to Ambassador Rishcynski in a ceremony at the Municipal Hall. When asked about the Canadian travel alerts concerning visiting Mexico, Rishcynski replied that Canadians will continue to return as it is a destination they enjoy.
